'04 Engine failure at 140,000 miles

My '04 Turbo, with just over 140,000 miles has suffered an engine failure - and the recommendations, including a second opinion, are (a) junk it; or (b) install a new motor.

This car has been driven less than 10k per year every year. My insurance company rates it as a "low mileage vehicle" for insurance purposes. Several sources have told me that the 4.5L motor is a "250,000 mile motor", yet it's dead in the water. Someone said "Call Porsche USA" and see if due to (essentially) low mileage, if there's anything Porsche would do...

Others have said "Put a new motor in it" ....

What say you all???

What are the symptoms? Worst case - a junkyard motor is a good bet... only if the yard stored it inside a climate-controlled environment or they have meticulous records of it's previous operating condition.

I would be shocked if Porsche would give you anything because a 15 year old car with 140k miles on suffered an engine failure. What specifically is wrong with the engine? Is truly beyond repair? Or beyond repair because that's what the dealer said? What about a good independent Porsche service facility? I've got 162k miles on a 2012 and I gave up on the dealer because they were 3x the price of an independent Porsche service specialist that is right around the corner from the dealer. Dealer wanted $3900 for 160k mile service, I got it done for $1400 while I got to look around a parking lot filled with about 20 different Porsche rally/race cars.

Coming from Canada but a low price of the logistics work out. My new-to-me non turbo engine is coming up to Canada in a couple of weeks.

Dealer said they ran a compression test on "bank 1" .....but no notes that they actually did anything more. Their final note was "needs engine replacement, but cost would exceed value of vehicle". No notes indicating if there is gas or water in the oil, or if they found anything else. I have a friend who has 2 Porsche's and an Audi, so I'm going to load the Cayenne on a trailer and tow it to his dealer, who is someone he's dealt with for years. I think they'll give me a more honest read on what's wrong..........and it'll be worth the $100 for the U-Haul trailer....Will update this after that dealer has a look at it.

I've traveled all over the world, and nothing opens the door to conversation faster than saying "I have a Porsche"
