Porsche has just announced two new entry-level versions of the all-new second-generation Cayenne SUV: a gasoline-powered V6 and a diesel. The gas model makes used of the same direct-injection 3.6-liter V6 as found in the new Panamera model, boasting 300-hp. Offered in Europe with a standard 6-speed manual transmission it can hit 62 mph in 7.5 seconds or 7.8 seconds with a new 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission – likely the standard transmission here in North America.

As for the Cayenne Diesel (likely not offered in North America), it comes with a 3.0-liter V6 with 240-hp and a 0-62 mph time of 7.8 seconds thanks to the same 8-speed auto-box.

No EPA fuel economy numbers are yet available, but based on the more generous European test cycle the new Cayenne is still likely to see a 20 percent improvement in fuel economy. This is due not only the use of direct-injection and an 8-speed transmission, but also to the significantly lighter overall weight of the luxury SUV.
