Porsche has deemed the moment to be right for the US introduction of their diesel SUV. The 2013 Cayenne comes with a 3.0-liter oil-burning powerplant with 240 hp, permanent all-wheel drive (AWD) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) torque.
The SUV needs only 7.2 seconds to get to 60 mph (98 km/h) and beyond that point it will stop at 135 mph (220 km/h). That’s faster than a base Cayenne by 0.2 seconds, but slower than the Cayenne Turbo by 2.8 seconds.
The 2013 Porsche Cayenne Diesel will be available only in combination with the 8 speed Tiptronic and it will have a base price of $55,750 (not including $950 destination). At that level you can consider buying a fully loaded Volkswagen Touareg, but that obviously lacks the badge power.
The Cayenne Diesel's AWD brings SCR-technology and permanent all-wheel drive system with self-locking center differential.
