Ive not properly inspected and poked around with the exhaust system yet, still new to me, but from what I can see I'd be surprised if you even need to lift the car to remove the back box, but I would imagine the dealer would charge you a fortune! The hardest part will obviously be coding switch, but for a good Indy with PIWIS should be a breeze.

As a much cheaper alternative, last week, someone in Germany was advertising a "simple" diy exhaust modification pipe that is supposed to improve sound! Anybody hear heard of something like this? Any idea how it would work?

I have never seen that modification. The 958, both .1 and .2 Turbocharged V6 & V8 models have 2 sets of catalytic converters coming off the turbos. The second set aren't true catalytic converters as they contain no precious metals but are there for more sound restriction. Installing these bypass pipes/secondary cat deletes allows the engine to breathe easier, and allows for less turbo lag and better throttle response. You also get better exhaust sound. FVD, Soul and Fabspeed sell these. I have the Soul version.

My car was rear ended on September 1st. After talking to the Body Shop, and pricing out the repair, ordering this $3400 PSE kit was working out the same as ordering the standard non-valved muffler and tips price-wise and shipping time-wise as they both would have to ship from Germany to the US.

I did manage to get in touch with Suncoast and they provided the retrofit diagram. The body shop will install the muffler, I need to find an indy shop that specializes in these retrofits near me that isn't going to charge an arm and a leg for the wiring job and button installation.

 

Thanks for the tip regarding the secondary cats, something else to add to the shipping list!😆 I don't mind the exhaust not on my 4.2, sure a little muted, but still purposeful. But if anything can drown out the diesel taxi rattling noise , especially at idle, that would be welcomed (guess I'm just spoilt by my other 2 petrol V8s!🤪🙄)

 

I don't know if they'll fit diesel models, or if they're even emissions legal in the EU/UK. In the US they're 49 state legal, the only exception being California. Sorry if I got your hopes up.

Yes, the kit includes the module and buttons for the console. The dealer or an indy has to program the DME with the PSE software so the car knows when to open the valves when needed. Insurance is paying for the parts however I will probably end up paying some money out for the wiring installation.

Part numbers will vary per car as each Cayenne has different options. My car has every button except the PSE, so I will need #16 in the image below, taken from the retrofit guide.

If I had the opportunity to "upgrade" the exhaust or any part on the Inshurance I'd just do it anyway, you can always sort the wiring out at some other time, maybe the console needs to come out any way at some point🤷‍♂️ (looks like the VW switch gear isn't necessarily the most reliable?)

Presumably the kit included the module?!
Perhaps you would post a picture here with the p/n when you receive the parts? Might be useful for retro fitters.👏

 

The Parts finally showed up on Monday, and the exhaust was bolted on. I did get a sneak preview, and it is much louder and throatier with both the Soul Secondary Cat bypass and the PSE Muffler. The kit also included the wiring and button module. All the parts needed and included are listed in the manual in my original post. Porsche Plano wants $4k to install the wiring and code the DME. I am still trying to find a local Porsche specialist who will take the job on.
