Hello Cayenne friends,

I am relatively new to the Porsche world and am excited to join this forum! Here is a little repost from my introduction on Rennlist that covers my adventure of buying my Cayenne across the country and driving it home to California!

After months of searching, I finally found the unicorn I have been looking for - a manual transmission 958 Cayenne. The car was perfect; one owner, low miles,14-way seats, power steering plus, premium package, Bose audio, extended fuel tank and much more. Pretty loaded for a base.

Within minutes of the car being posted online I had a deposit down. While everything seemed too good to be true, there were 2 major issues/concerns. First; the car was in Cleveland Ohio which is notorious for rust buckets and second; I live on the coast of California 2,700 miles away! Nonetheless, I was able to get photos of the underside to confirm there was no rust. It looked like the car was only driven in the summer as everything was very clean. Next was to figure out how to get the car home..

I had never driven cross-country or seen most of the states between Ohio and California and made the impulsive decision to fly out and drive the car home. I figured it would be a great way to see the country and get to know my new car!

I got to Ohio late on Friday night and was picked up by the dealer Saturday morning. The car looked even better in person than in the photos. Surprisingly, the only "problem" I could find was the needle on the minute hand on the dash clock had fallen off, no big deal. Everything drove great, I signed the papers and set off in my new 958!

Purchased 8/27/22 out of Youngstown Ohio! Time to drive home...

Interior was spotless.

While I wish I had more time to really enjoy the journey, I needed to be back by Tuesday of the following week; I had 3 days to cover the 37 hour drive. I got a bit of a late start on Saturday and did not leave the dealership until around noon. After a quick stop at a local Walmart, I hit the road! I figured I would be good for about 12 hours of driving which put me in Omaha, Nebraska. This was my favorite leg of the trip. I had never seen any of the states I passed through and it was great to see that part of the country. I especially enjoyed passion over the Mississippi river, looked like a great place to be!

A quick stop for some gas, water, and snack before really heading out.

Love how clean the front end is. Did I hear someone say, "PPF incoming?"

Getting on the road - Ohio.

Probably one of my favorite sights through the trip - Mississippi River

I arrived in Omaha late Saturday night and was glad to find the Marriot Council Bluffs very comfortable!

Some good averages for the first leg. Was getting almost 600 miles on a single tank!

Got up relatively late on Sunday and began the somewhat boring trip through Nebraska and Wyoming. If you ever wondered, there is not a ton to see and these states are lonnnggg

Most of Nebraska/Wyoming looks something like this

But there are some cool parts. I believe this is just west of Cheyenne

Arrived in Salt Lake City and spent the night at a friends house. I used to live in Salt Lake and had not been back since. It was cool to visit - albite brief.

The Cayenne still looking surprisingly clean for driving 2/3 the way across the US

Got up early Monday morning and set off from Salt Lake to drive the rest of the way home. Stopped in Lake Tahoe for a lunch break with some friends who live there. Was a good halfway point to rest as I still had 6 hours to go.

Gotta love the weird things you see in the Utah/Nevada desert.

Finally, around 7pm Monday, I arrived home. Overall I drove 2,708 miles without any hiccups. The car performed fantastically and I had no issues. The seats were AMAZING, I never had any uncomfortable aches even after the 37 hour journey! Another awesome option that I really am glad to have is the extended fuel tank. I only had to fuel up a total of 5 times and arrived home with 1/2 a tank of gas!

This is definitely the most comfortable car I have owned and I am excited to join the 958 club.

Now its time to get to work cleaning all these bugs!

Do the PPF - and at the same time have them put it on the headlights. The headlights will stay looking new forever if you do that.. (13 years on my Boxster, 11 years on my Cayenne - both have brand new looking headlights, with PPF on them.)

Right now still searching for a the best option. So far its looking like $2k for the full bumper, lights, hood and fenders. Seems like a decent deal for good work, but then again I am in CA where everything is more $.

Glad to hear you have had such a good experience and definitely confirms the NEED for PPF 😅

Great post. I’m trying to buy one and here to read about peoples experiences. Yours definitely is a good one. Wish I could ask more questions
Shoot me a message if you have any specific questions, I am more than happy to help in any way I can!

I have put around 6k miles in exactly 1 month (purchased on 8/27). No issues at all to report and still love it as much as when I left the dealership.

Paint Protective Film - plastic film is applied over the paint to protect it from scratches, stone dings, damage.
Thank you for the Info. I bought a 2021 Cayenne eHybrid almost a year ago that had 700 miles on the odometer at Ray Catena Porsche. It had originally been delivered to Porsche Engineers who ordered it down in Atlanta Ga. It had the clear bra on the nose of the car, fenders and hood about ⅓ of the way up. They threw in a CPO warranty to extend the B to B warranty to 6 years from the date it was originally delivered to the engineers in Feb 2010. The only thing was I had to pay full sticker price, which today from what I've read that is a bargain. I will say this is the best car I have ever owned, 455 hp its an animal.
