Coolant Display Defective

1070 Views 4 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  vsurg
I recently started seeing this warning displayed, along with "Engine start/stop deactivated". The coolant level is normal. The coolant temperature is normal as determined by shutting the vehicle down and restarting and seeing it well within normal range. The oil temperature is normal. All the engine fans turn on when the display lights up and turn off when the vehicle is shut down and restarted. The Temperature sensors (front and back) were replaced, and it still happens. My mechanic found a posting on Auto Service Professional (Faulty Porsche Coolant Temperature) that addresses a software issue in the DME.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so, did you have the computer reset as described in the posting above and did it remedy the problem?

I have the exact same issue on my 2013. Have you had any luck with this?

Yes. It was the thermostat all along. I have the front and rear temperature sensors replaced ($1300). When that didn’t fix the problem the only thing left was to replace the thermostat which of course necessitated replacing the water pump and the serpentine belt. Fortunately, I have enough chops to be able to have done this myself and saved at least $2000. Not only did this solve this immediate problem, but for the first time since I owned the car, the start/stop feature worked, which indicates to me that the thermostat was never good. I too thought the temperatures were normal, but what I didn’t realize is that normal operating temperature is 200°F. It was never that.

Thanks so much for your prompt reply and a solution! When you replaced the front and rear temperature sensors, what temperature sensors are those? The engine coolant temperature sensor? I thought there was only one if that's the case. Also, why does replacing the thermostat necessitate replacing the water pump and serpentine belt? Thanks again for all your help. I have new hope!
They were the coolant sensors, yes. The thermostat is located behind the water pump and the serpentine belt is such a pain to replace it makes sense to do so when everything is off. It is also supposed to be replaced at 50k anyway and I had 42k on the vehicle.
