I'm in the market to buy a used Porsche Cayenne 958.1 (2012) but can't decide on the 3.0 Diesel or 3.6 Petrol. The reviews all say get the Diesel, better economy, better torque, cheaper maintenance, these are mostly US/European reviews. In Malaysia the Diesel annual road tax is cheaper and diesel fuel (we only have Euro 5) is cheaper too than Ron 97, but thinking about future resale which is the better option? With diesel losing popularity because of 'Dieselgate' and Porsche has stopped offering diesel models, is that a concern for future resale value (especially this market, Malaysia)?

The diesel years are '13 -'16 for 92a's so no '17. 958's did produce diesel in '12 but you must find the market. At this point depreciation is low so they maintain their value well because there are no new available. One important aspect is that they are excellent tow vehicles, suitable for caravan, car hauler, utillity trailors etc. A negative is they are slow and you must allow small gas vehicles to pass safely. Of course you may spool up turbo and romp and stomp with the best but economy suffers, it is a 5000 lb suv. As years go by they will be more desirable. Comfortable, quiet, reliable. Expensive services, short life expensive tires, generally expensive parts. Expensive synthetic oil at 3500 mile intervals. They should only appreciate from now on.
