Porsche Announces 540-Horsepower Upgrade Kit for Cayenne Turbo - Rumor CentralIf you think the 500 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque on tap in the Porsche Cayenne Turbo isn’t enough, you’re not alone. Porsche has announced a new “power kit” upgrade which, like the similar kit offered for the Panamera Turbo, boosts power to 540 horsepower and 553 pound-feet.
The upgrades involve new turbochargers and reprogrammed electronics for the 4.8-liter V-8 engine. Porsche says the extra 40 horsepower drops the Cayenne Turbo’s 0-to-62-mph time by 0.1 second, to 4.6 seconds, and boosts its top speed from 172 to 176 mph.
Because all that velocity will tax the Cayenne’s brakes, Porsche saw fit to modify their cooling ducts for better airflow, and enlarged the front discs on the optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes to 16.5 inches in diameter.
There are also several new Porsche Exclusive options to dress up the Cayenne: tinted LED taillights, new leather choices, a so-called Yachting Mahogany wood trim, a milled-aluminum gear shifter, and a choice of stainless steel or carbon-fiber door sill plates.
Owners of the Panamera are likewise privy to a few new features, including the addition of Lane Change Assist. It illuminates a warning in the sideview mirrors if a vehicle is in the Panamera’s blind spot. Curiously, Porsche points out that the system works only at speeds between 19 and 156 mph. Black-tinted headlight housings and a new sports exhaust are also in the cards for the Panamera.
Pricing for all the aforementioned upgrades has yet to be announced. They should arrive later this year for model-year 2012.
