So during a recent emissions test my 2004 Cayenne S failed with OBD code P0712 indicating Transmission Temperature Sensor - Low circuit voltage.

After a number of expensive repairs by the Porsche dealer (Valve Body, Transmission Control Unit) they are indicating the transmission may need replacing.

The car itself drives like new if i let it idle for 3-5 minutes before driving (ie i let it heat up). It has hard downshifting and upshifting if I don't let it idle. This seems to indicate to me it is a sensor issue vs a "real" transmission issue.

My question is whether there is any way to fix this sensor without replacing the transmission?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am desperate!
