Porsche is a company that was once known for the 911 and little else. These days, however, its line-up has expanded well beyond the enigmatic rear-engined sportscar to include sedans and crossovers as well. But don't expect Porsche to stop there.With the 911, Cayman, Boxster, Panamera and Cayenne anchoring its existing range, Porsche is gearing up to launch the 918 Spyder at the top of the line and the Macan crossover. The Stuttgart-based automaker has other prospects in the pipeline. While a smaller roadster to slot in below the Boxster has been discounted as a production possibility in the near future, Porsche is reportedly considering two new projects.The first is dubbed Project 960, and would constitute a two-seat, mid-engined coupe to target the Ferrari 458 Italia and the Gallardo from Porsche's own sister-company Lamborghini.The Volkswagen Group is, after all, not adverse to competition within its own empire. The 960 would reportedly pack a twin-turbo V8 with around 600 horsepower.
The second project may seem less exciting, but could take Porsche into new territory with a junior Panamera known tentatively as the Pajun project.The new sedan would target the territory held by the likes of the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and sister-company Audi's A6 range.While both projects have long been rounding the rumor mill, the fact that an established trade publication like Automotive News Europe is reporting them back on the table gives us hope that we could see them on the road in the coming years.
