Who else is looking forward to the Macan?

Reuters is reporting that, according to German weekly WirtschaftsWoche, production plans for the upcoming Porsche Macan have expanded from 45,000 vehicles by the end of 2013 to 75,000. The compact crossover will be built at a Porsche's factory in Leipzig, Germany.

The German media outlet does not give any attribution or source information for the production figures. However, considering the white-hot demand for the Range Rover Evoque, it's not surprising for Porsche to expect strong global demand for its new small SUV.

The Leipzig plant also builds the larger Porsche Cayenne and, as part of Porsche's $629 million investment announced earlier this year, bodies for both the Cayenne and Macan will be stamped on-site. Previously, chassis for the Cayenne were produced off-site at Volkswagen's Bratislava, Slovakia plant.
The Macan will share its platform with the Audi Q5 and is expected to offer four-cylinder, V-6 and possibly diesel or hybrid powertrain options.
