A prototype for the Porsche Macan has recently been spotted undergoing road testing, putting this new SUV on track to hit the market next year, changing the way we look at sports crossover vehicles.
This will be the fifth model in the Porsche arsenal and will be built at their Leipzig plant, where a major expansion has ensured the facility is ready for increased demand. The platform for this coupe-ish SUV has been borrowed from the Q5. But much like the Q7 donated parts to the Cayenne, this will still not dilute the brand in any way.
It’s expected that the Macan will be offered with a range of new V6 engines tailored to Porsche’s needs. This will likely include a version of the 313 PS 3.0 BiTDI, and also a 380 PS petrol engine for the Macan Turbo. A base four-cylinder model and a hybrid are also reportedly considered.
This will be a budget Cayanne, not the sports SUV with coupe lines we’ve been dreaming of. It’s a bit like the Cayman slotting under the 911.
