I bought lately Porsche Cayenne and this is the first time so since i bought it i was wondering why the ignition key is on the left side of the steering wheel?

I searched a lot in net and found nothing so i hope that i can find the answer here

I would suspect that Porsche is just following the history of all their other models....speed. It harkens back to Le Mans, the driver could get into the vehicle, activate the ignition with the left hand while engaging the gearbox with right at the same time. This is the same reason the older models had the wipers park on the left side and wipe to the right. The first sweep would clean the windshield in front of the driver immediately.

Just a bit of Porsche history.
